Ever wonder what the name of that overly protective cyber girlfriend or boyfriend you have is?
National
The name they go by is: Security
Agency
They say it's for our own safety, but is this really true?
It all began in October 2001, after the 9/11 attacks. President Bush at the time had authorized the NSA to conduct surveillance within the United States. This meant that they were allowed to tap into American telephones and Internet communications. Plus, it was all done without any court approval or statutory authorization.
Basically, since the beginning of the NSA, the government has been unconstitutionally tracking its citizens. But it doesn't stop there does it? No, it doesn't. They have also been listening into our private calls, sifting through emails, AND watching the people we talk to and where we go with these people. It is rightfully the violation of our Fourth Amendment.
The Fourth Amendment clearly states: And Yes, that is how We the American people feel:
So by 2005, the President publicly accepted a portion which contained the “warrantless surveillance of Americans believed to be communicating with people connected with terrorism suspects.” WHAT? How many people in the United States does the government actually believe are involved with terrorist activities? Do they believe that the entire US population is involved with these "activities"? If not, then what's the point? If the whole nation is full of terrorists, then who's really the good guy? Is there even one and if there is, is he the odd man out? The black sheep? Or is he the one that's actually viewed as the terrorist?
Or maybe, they are trying to point fingers at all the Non-Whites in the country. It seems that anyone who even has a sliver of pigmentation will be questioned and/or harassed. And after the 9/11 attacks, this has become especially true for individuals that even look a “hint” Middle Eastern or a “tad” Muslim. The NSA is forcing their nation’s own men and women to turn against them and their government.
Later, it was revealed that this act was conducted beyond the surveillance of terrorists and conceded that the program did not comply with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) by the Senior Bush Administration. This program has been reauthorized by the President more than thirty times warrant less, even after the program was violating criminal laws.
If it was violating criminal laws, then why was their no action taken against it? Was it because it was the PRESIDENT breaking the law and not just an ordinary man? Even a police officer is punished in this case.
Today we also know that President Obama has continued the program “under the table” with differing secret legal justifications, strategically denying portions of it.
If the government was not unreliable enough, our personal information is now unsecured through another source:
"When Max Kelly, the chief security officer for Facebook, left the social media company in 2010, he did not go to Google, Twitter or a similar Silicon Valley concern. Instead the man who was responsible for protecting the personal information of Facebook’s more than one billion users from outside attacks went to work for [the National Security Agency]."
So what now? Do we run and hide? Ha wait can’t do that. They are EVERYWHERE. The man we trusted the most with our personal information in the entire world, Max Kelly, has also betrayed us and joined the NSA. Not only him, but all the other major social media agencies have joined hands with them. Now it only takes a few keywords in a status update or tweet and the NSA could be all over you for the rest of your life.
So why do I care since I have nothing to hide? I don’t. Unfortunately, the fact that I am a Muslim may be used against me. Just like all the other innocent Americans who have been captured and treated harshly, I am at risk of being a suspect for absolutely no reason.
It is understandable that things done by the government is for our (the citizens of America) own good, but there is a fine line drawn between protection and personal freedom; freedom that is being taken away from each and every citizen as a result of the watchful eyes of the government.
Stalking is a government crime.
