N.S.A. - National Spying Agency |
“The
majority of our nation's intelligence for counter-terrorism, hard
targets and support to military operations comes from the National
Security Agency /Central Security Service. For the good of the
nation, it is imperative that NSA/CSS maintain its cryptologic
superiority.” These words come from GEN Keith Alexander, Director
and Chief of the NSA and CSS. While his description of the NSA and
what they do sounds like a bundle of lovely flowers, there are
methods they use to go about pertaining the “knowledge needed”
for the “sake of America's safety” that leads us as Americans to
believe they are invading our privacy. The NSA have been very busy
with doing whatever it takes to keep the USA safe from threats but
people are starting to believe they are letting the power get to
their heads. With many people believing they are using methods that
violate our freedoms to obtain this knowledge, it has us wondering if
they are watching us more than the threats in the world around us.
On
June 6th
of 2013, we learned that the NSA had compelled the ongoing disclosure
of information of telephone calls traversing the USA to the NSA since
2006. Upon discovery of the mass surveillance program, the EPIC's
Petition argued that the program was unlawful under the statutory
language that requires that information be "relevant to an
authorized investigation." This is clearly just one example of
how the NSA are abusing their powers of surveillance. It has also
been released that they had a spy program that tapped the phone calls
of 35 world leaders without the permission, or even the knowledge, of
President Obama. Recently, Obama is requiring that the NSA revise
their programs and what they are allowed to do and not allowed to do
with or without his consent. Maybe this will lessen the power of the
NSA just a little to where it doesn’t worry the US citizens who are
concerned with their rights.
lol I love the title!
